A navigation bar is a graphic or set of graphics which acts as control
buttons to move among the pages of a Web site. Often an
image map is used as a navigation bar so that one image
can be used to handle all the possible options. A navigation
bar can be anything from a simple image of buttons to complex animated
VRML graphics.
When you create a navigation bar for a Web site, you
should keep a few things in mind.
- Not everyone can view images, and of those who can, some
of them cannot or will not load large images. Therefore you
should always provide a text-based version of your navigation
controls.
- Multiple images will dramatically increase the time required to display
your page. Bored people waiting for
big files will go elsewhere fast.
- Small graphics for each navigation control may provide
greater speed, better control, and easier maintenance.
